Every Start Up Needs a Story: Session 5 of Innovators Club Cohort VI

LBIC: Apex hosted Session 5 of the Innovators Club Cohort VI with Kat Arney from First Create The Media.

The workshop brought together eight early-stage life science ventures to tackle a common challenge: how do founders communicate technical science in ways that resonate with investors, partners, and the wider ecosystem?

The cohort explored three key elements:

  1. Crafting founder narratives – Building credibility and connection through authentic storytelling
  2. Structuring pitch decks – Sequencing information to guide your audience toward a compelling conclusion
  3. Applying design principles – Using visual clarity and intentional design to reinforce your core message

The key insight: the most persuasive pitches combine a clear narrative, focused messaging, and thoughtful design. In today's funding landscape, investors remain more selective and commercially focused than ever. How you tell your story matters as much as the science itself. Founders must demonstrate market understanding, articulate competitive advantage, and connect innovation to real-world impact.

 About the Innovators Club

The Innovators Club is a flagship 10-week, fee-free and equity-free accelerator programme run by the Science Entrepreneur Club (SEC). Cohort VI brings together eight promising life science start-ups for a comprehensive curriculum designed to accelerate their path to investment readiness.

What Founders Get Throughout the Programme:

Expert-led sessions covering:

  • Intellectual property strategy
  • Investment fundraising
  • Grant writing
  • Pitching and storytelling

Plus access to:

  • Informal networking events with peers and investors
  • One-to-one no-detriment meetings with investors and specialist service providers
  • Custom-written articles by SEC's Science Writers
  • Pitch opportunity to the BioCapital Network—the UK's largest life science investor community with over 500 members

The Prize: 12-Month LBIC Membership

At the end of the 10-week programme, all Cohort VI companies have the chance to win a prize package that includes an LBIC 12-month virtual membership, plus additional benefits donated by programme supporters.

Beyond the programme, graduates join the BioEntrepreneur Club with ongoing SEC support. Previous cohorts have collectively secured over £65 million in funding.

Meet Cohort VI

The eight companies in this cohort span the breadth of life science innovation:

  • AmpliSynth – Same-day gene synthesis powered by proprietary enzymatic chemistry and intelligent sequence design
  • EVolution Therapeutics – mRNA–nanoparticle therapeutics for inflammatory diseases, starting with wound healing
  • Microsol – Platform technology transforming inhaled drug development through predictive simulations and aerosol particle measurements
  • Molecular Titans – Smart, water-soluble polymers for rapid, point-of-use detection of infectious microbes
  • needle.bio – AI-powered immunomics turning T cell receptor sequences into a functional map of human immunity
  • Stealth Company – Quantum-accurate chemical reaction simulations combining machine learning with first-principles quantum mechanics
  • Trem – Digital biomarker platform for Essential Tremor using wearables for objective, continuous measurement
  • Valaya Bio – RNAi therapeutics platform for age-related degenerative diseases, starting with Parkinson's

Each company becomes part of a supportive community of life science founders navigating shared challenges. The programme champions diversity—across all six cohorts to date, half of the companies have had a woman founder or co-founder.
