
Professor Colin Howard trained as a virologist spent nearly 20 years at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
In 1991 he joined the Royal Veterinary College as Professor of Microbiology, where he is currently Vice-Principal for Strategic Development and Chief Executive of the London BioScience Innovation Centre.
Colin was nominated Entrepreneur of the Year in 2001 by the London Biotechnology Network for his contribution to the development of innovation support across London.
Colin’s scientific interests focus on persistent virus infections, how they arise, and how they can be treated, with particular emphasis on viral hepatitis. He is the author of over 160 scientific papers and reviews and has just completed a monograph on Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers published by Elsevier. He has also acted as a consultant to commercial vaccine manufacturers and as an adviser to the World Health Organisation.
